Mysterium Tremendum Lovecraftian horror and mystery in the 1920s
Does the phrase "Collect call of Cthulhu" bring back fond memories of tabletop gaming sessions? Do you like investigating the depths of the unknown and the mysterious occult? Giving your characters a chance to save the world from the threat of unthinkable cosmic horrors? Then come join us at Mysterium Tremendum!
mysterium_tremendum is an intimate, slow-paced, plot-heavy panfandom gothic sci-fi/horror game based on the Cthulhu mythos.
This isn’t your usual survival-horror setting. The focus isn’t on saving oneself (though characters will certainly find themselves at risk). Instead, this is a place where characters are among only a small handful of people who know about the horrific threats looming on the edges of sanity, where it falls to them to keep humanity safe from all sorts of eldritch abominations and the earthly vassals who would conspire to bring them forth. Even more than the body, it will be characters’ sanity that this work places at risk.
We offer: • flexible, unhurried pacing • a relaxed, flexible, and periodic AC (approximately every other month) • a focus on realism and prose-based collective story-telling (though with opportunities for comment spam) • a welcoming, relaxed, and friendly atmosphere • backtag-friendly players • an expansive city and countryside as the main setting, with possibilities for travel anywhere in the world • options for AUs and OCs, and an option for individually-crafted modes of character arrival
We aim to appeal to players who are looking for a game where they and their characters can really have an impact. You won't find any plot-on-rails style plots here. The game is devised to be truly dynamic, and character actions will shape the direction that game events take overall.
No knowledge of Lovecraft’s writing or of Cthulhu Mythos is needed to play. We have an extensive FAQ and setting info, and are happy to answer additional questions.
