Sometimes both at once. Hallucinations, nightmares, curses, critters. Wishes made, granted, regretted. Some people find their dreams become a terrifying - or wonderful - reality. At least until the mist rolls out again.
It's a hard life, but most of us don't complain too much. See, there's nowhere else to go. The once great mage cities, they've all fallen away. Far as we know, we're the only people still living in the whole damn world. This is all we've got left.
