I really don't have a good answer for the first question since I'm very new to the game myself. I don't think there's anyone in the game that would care about that, but it is a writing-based game in English, so I imagine it would depend on how confident you feel your language skills are? Sorry I can't be of more help with this. :(

As for the application system, I found it pretty easy. It primarily consists of a character personality section and two different kinds of writing samples - just stuff to demonstrate you can fit into the scope of the game and understand the character. From looking around at other games, it seems pretty comparable to the norm for what's asked for?
