I know too little of Soul Campaign to say! If I might ask what about big games that you don't like? Is it that it might be overwhelming? Just in case I can help with whatever ;)

The mood of the game generally depends on the plot too, for example after the Event Horizon, it was noticeably darker and the characters were all left trying to deal with the horrors they've seen or even inflicted themselves. But during the recent baby plot, you see funnier shenanigans. I'd say it really varies but depending on the character and the CR, it can be as cracky or as dark as you make it. If Paradisa has a genre, I'd call it a drama... Hope that helps!

The Castle is more of a silent presence, the elephant in the room. Although characters might hear it whisper and mutter just before waking/sleeping and those who have been there longer and those who have died would hear its voice more clearly though still intelligible.

As for what's there to do, I've noticed more characters hosting their own get togethers, like we had an IC round of Never Have I Ever some weeks back that was fun for developing CR. Then of course there are the plots, the most exciting one being the Lost World one~ Eren can go kill dinosaurs and Rivaille will keep score. Also the castle inflicts losses on characters randomly, that is according to the mun's whim. I've made my characters have to tell the truth, get stuck inside a confessional booth, lose all inhibition and... everything else, there's really no limit.

And yeah, take as much time as you need. I just had to bother you because YMIR, WANT. And the losses will be fun! The castle also randomly gives people temporary losses, like I've had my other characters lose all inhibition, can't lie, get stuck in a room with another person. Maybe even Ymir can get stuck in her Titan form, anything the mun wishes ;)

the first issue was bad, but not enough that i didn't give the second one a try. i'm a big doctor 13 fan (and i used to play traci, who has funky history that makes no sense as it is, sob!) so i was hoping for something not incredibly painful? but it only got worse and worse. i guess that's how you know you're reading comics...

I think it was Beechen? He's basically known for ruining characters and not knowing how they act, react, or their personalities and just doing whatever he feels with them. He actually wrote really great DCAU comics, is the sad thing! (Just stick with BB & Architecture and Morality; Terry's past will only make things more confusing.)
