Question (probably for next time, I zoned out and missed the ad-posting sweet spot this time) - does 3) apply in instances where the span is just being used to do fancy font things instead of the (technically deprecated) font tag? My reading is mostly like 'don't use < span style="width:800px;" >' (though I feel like max-width should be fine buuut I know a lot of coders do not understand the nuances between the two)
