OKAY SO there are multiple organizations in this post-post apocalyptic world and one of them is called Gigas. (Gigas is tricky to app from, you have to speak with the mods extensively, but it is technically an option.) Gigas, unlike the main civilization in-game, Union, still uses PokéBalls. Their natives don't have powers the way Unionites do, but what they do have are imperialistic leanings. They've destroyed at least one settlement in the past and laid siege to another for years before Union got involved and brokered an end to the conflict. You can read more about Gigas here.
Gigas also has questionable scientists who attempted to induce powers in human test subjects - sometimes voluntarily, sometimes not. People who are artificially granted powers are called "Enhanced"; in exchange for not having one of their types' usual weaknesses, they have to have some kind of mental instability. Enhanced are a new category of appable character, and there's a facility being constructed in Union for Enhanced seeking to escape Gigas's clutches. This is another possible option for Eas - maybe she's a mole?
Powers are pretty cool! In addition to being able to choose two (sometimes three) Pokémon types for your character, and matching moves/changes to their appearance - for instance, Flying-types might sprout feathers and wings, while pretty much all Fairy-types sparkle it's hilarious - you get to pick one special ability or "class" of powered human. To use Haruka as an example, she's a "God of War", which gives her an advantage in fights at the expense of needing to have a smaller party of on-hand Pokémon. Gods of War are also allowed to have three types, so she's Flying/Ground/Psychic. So basically you build your own Pokémon, except it's your human. You can read more about that here.
As for keeping the list updated.....haaaah, Haruka's list is like a month out of date and I'm still able to play OK. Anytime you go out and get into Pokémon battles (particularly around events) it becomes necessary to have your list up to date so people know what they're up against, but for daily poking around? No biggie. You get ~12 levels a week to distribute among your character and their Pokémon, so it's also not like you have to update every Pokémon every week unless that's how you prefer to spread the levels.
This was a lot of stuff I'm sorry. But once you start playing in the environment you do pick up on things quickly, and everybody in game is super-helpful. There's an AU Planning Meme where you can bounce ideas off everybody for feedback/CR. Basically though this is a really fun game and I'd love to see you there!
