Hi, this is just my take on it, but I'd say world destroying and the moral/ethical conflict that comes with that plays a big role. The game is very structured so there's little room to be left to their own devices during missions. I'd describe it as an action/sci fi game. Definitely not SOL and usually not horror.

At the moment, the crew is held in a sort of holding cell due to IC developments so they're, yeah, being left to their own devices, but missions get pretty busy and there's always something the characters are assigned to do. There's an overarching plot that's still largely mysterious but the mods have said that we're now moving toward the more metaplotty part of the game, for example, an npc was recently killed by another officer for accusedly plotting against the CDC and that seems likely to be a catalyst for bigger things to come.
