Yeah.. The early Tales games had pretty Generic Heroes that were all in the same vein, tbh. Cless, Stahn, and Reid were just generic country bumpkins. Cless and Stahn were at least done ...okay whereas Reid just.. eh. I think they tried to remake Stahn with a different design and it just doesn't work. He wasn't done as well. They try and pile it on near the end to make you care but it just kinda falls flat because you really don't care about him at the end. You're more interested on how its impacting everyone else around him. I definitely play that game for the other three and change my character ASAP.
I think they started taking it in a bit of a different direction with Lloyd since he was still a hunter-bumpkin but he had a couple other aspects to him. After that they started changing it up which was a WELCOME change and you get a lot of varied and different main characters which are all over the place.
