Since you're thinking of apping an OC, I'm not sure how much an AU game would affect you, but [community profile] bravenewworld is extremely OC friendly! We're a Pokemon game with a focus on world exploration, and encourage player plots. Right now, we're slow-to-medium paced (still new), but shapeshifters would actually be able to work quite well in-setting, as we have our own brand of shapeshifting crafted into the world.

Could you give me an idea of how shapeshifting works in-game in a nutshell? or direct me to which page addresses it?

Certainly!

In-setting, shifters are either humans or pokemon that can change into either a pokemon or human. So say, for example, you have a mermaid character. You could have that character be human shifter (a human that can shift into a pokemon, so, for example, goldeen), or a pokemon shifter (a pokemon that can shift into a human, so, for example, a goldeen that can take human form). Their abilities are framed into that pokemon's particular moveset.

Ah, I see! That's certainly different from anything I've seen before. I'll take a look at the game info and see if it seems like a place that would click for me :)
