Oh wow, a Seven of Nine AND General Chang, way cool! outer_divide fits your criteria for everything except gladiatorial for Chang, being fairly slow paced with a metaplot that would give the others something to do. It's a sci fi mystery game with an open world to explore and interact with and a crashed space ship to get functional again, and lots of plot threads to pluck at and follow.
