You've just arrived at Great Pines, a cozy community a few hours out from the nearest city, Nowhere, Wisconsin. It's not exactly a highlight resort town, boasting a handful of businesses (mostly locally owned) and no tourist attractions to speak of, but you have a nice view of the lake and the local diner makes a pretty good banana cream pie. How people come to Great Pines varies. Maybe you moved here for a new job, or maybe you turned down the wrong road.

Maybe you fell through a crack in reality. You really should be more careful. Especially now, because not everything is always as it seems. Don't stare too hard at the empty corners of the room, and it's probably a bad idea to go walking after dark. Those whispers you hear now and then are probably just your imagination, but the rumors of things lurking in the nearby woods and the lake water turning tar black at night are more credible than you want to know. And if you were planning on cutting out early, you might find that harder than you expect. No matter how many times people leave, they always come back. Maybe it's for the banana cream pie. Possibly, but probably not. Still, there are others around to talk to, so at least you're not alone in your plight. If you spend enough time together, you might even make a few friends. Look forward to it. You'll need them.

inthepines is an 18+, panfandom, horror-inspired roleplaying game set in the small, fictional town of Great Pines, WI. The game draws on ideas from various horror media, including Stephen King, Lovecraft, and Arthur Machen stories, The X-Files, Deadly Premonition, Kakurenbo (the animated short movie), Twin Peaks, The Crooked Man, Alan Wake, and Junji Ito's works. Characters arrive in Great Pines for a variety of different reasons and must work together (or not) to deal with hauntings and unexplained phenomena in town. Think Fargo with more ghosts.
