Sorry to be responding this too late, as the holidays (plus a convention for one of us) got in the way.

If AUs are a flavor that agrees with you, xavier_institute meets almost all of your preferences (though Peter would not be appable, due to being a major player in the game's universe). The game is very backtag friendly, plot-driven, and has the right pace and AC (see our "rules" section) that might meet your needs.
