Riyria Book Series

This is a shot in the dark but--!

I'm interested in finding a Hadrian Blackwater, Gwen DeLancy and just about anyone from the series to play with. I'd be interested in doing a between-the-books filling in the blanks and early years (ala post Rose and Thorn and pre Theft of Swords)

Barring that, I'd also be interested in crosscanon. Any character who can put up with a bad-tempered supremely paranoid thief who solves all his problems through murder.

I think I am going to inter-library loan these books and read them because I love me some high fantasy and books with thieves in them....

There are several books in two series and at least one more prequel book scheduled.

The Riyria Chronicles (prequels - published second - on going)
- The Crown Tower
- Rose and Thorn

The Riyria Revelations (published first - complete series)
- Theft of Swords
- Rise of Empire
- Heir of Novron

According to the author you can read Chronicles or Revelations first. Revelations being the end of the story of Riyria. Chronicles being how everything began and backstories of the major players in Revelations.

Sweet! I've run into a couple of other series whose pub dates don't match chronological dates, but that's okay!

I think I may start with Theft of Swords unless you have a specific path you'd think would be better!

Nah, that works good. The Crown Tower is a good stand-alone to read anytime but can be more fun if you've already read the other books.

Also, I forgot to say. Props for the Garret journal. I can hardly wait for the new game.

And thank you, likewise! I have sadly not done a damn thing with poor Garrett here. Much respect for ye olde Thief games too, but I have a soft spot for stealth in general, so despite all the shitfest over the new game, I am so ready to get my hands on it.

Yeah, I loved the old games and lost hope we'd ever see a Thief 4 years ago when the original game company went under. The fact we're even getting a game, even if it's a reboot, is phenomenal. Soft spot for stealth games here too.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the books! They were a pleasant surprise when I first read them, I didn't expect them to be as good as they were.

I know there is so much more to come (I am on the tip of the iceberg), but when Royce is like "WELL WE'RE OFFICIALLY DEAD" when the boat gets arrowed, I lost it. Totally my sense of humor. Me and my friends.

There are a lot of other points in the series that are like that! Some of the dialog is just hilarious.

Oh god! Soon you'll get to Myron! He's one of my favorites.

MYRON COMES BACK IN LATER BOOKS! He remains the best thing ever.

The gang of misfits sorta increases over time too. I made lots of undignified sounds just through all of them. By the send book I realized I was stuck with Royce.

I WAS GONNA WAIT TO REPLY TO YOU AGAIN WHEN, YOU KNOW, I ACTUALLY FINISHED THE BOOK SO I'M NOT HARASSING YOU CONSTANTLY but I have been so busy that even though I've been dying to read, I haven't had time.

But I'm now over half way because of being snowed in, AND THANK YOU AGAIN FOR THIS LOVELY GEM. I am never not grumbling when I have to put this book down and stop reading because of life.

Royce has my sense of humor definitely. It's so hard not to just love everyone in this book.

OH HI! Yeah, I happened to be sick when I first read the books so there wasn't much else I could do or be distracted by.

BUT OH GOD NO ONE I KNEW HAD READ THEM WHEN I FIRST DID SO I WOULD JUST FLAIL WILDLY. Got to a point someone was like "These books are going to kill you, aren't they?"

SUPER GLAD TO INFECT YOU WITH THEM. Royce has the best sense of humor.

and one day I want to see someone play Myron in a game just because how super adorable he'd be.
