I've got nothing against them. But since my go to muse IS a character from pokemon, I tend to feel a little scared about not being accepted into those kind of games because the way I play her might not be how others want her to be played. I've seen it happen to some friends before and it's just so...eeeehhh.

Well, I'm not sure you know anything about [community profile] bravenewworld, but I don't think that that would be much of a problem as we are an AU game. We don't actually have any casts from the games/anime/manga, so I think that might be interesting. We also have a small FE:A cast, which is a big reason why I'm asking.

Generally speaking, the game is slow-to-medium in pace, and tends to pick up during events, which happen every few months. We aren't necessarily plot-heavy, but the game does have an overarching plot going on, that does come up every few events. It's extremely open to player-run plots, and encourages characters to go out and explore the world.

Hoooold on a second, you guys don't have a pokemon cast? In a pokemon game??? Dude. Ok if I bring in Cynthia, what happens? Does she have to be from that world or what? And can she keep her original team?

Cynthia will need to be AU'd into the setting, and will be able to work up to her original team, all of which are currently on our map. She is able to take one of the listed starters. I believe Togepi, Riolu and Budew are the only ones on that list, though.

Well her original team has a togekiss and lucario so...
But as long as she doesn't have to start again from the bottom and come in as some AU'd champion then I'm sold

Hiya, I was asked to take over since the one above has to cook dinner!

We can probably work to have her be some kind of Champion OOCly, although ICly she'll be required to be at the starting level like everyone else. The basic conceit of the setting is that it's about 500 years after a cataclysmic war where the Pokemon almost wiped out humanity, so things like Gyms don't really exist anymore and Pokemon aren't captured, but instead bonded with. In her case I'd say she's probably prodigiously talented and likely a member of one of the major organizations, possibly the Rangers, who go out into the wilderness and scout. We're pretty open to working with you on that.

Ok well I'm looking at the FAQs page and the app and this definitely looks like a fun place to drag Cynthia. But there are a lot of things that just don't make sense to me.

Like pokemon, I can respect that you have a set list of starters so people don't go power tripping on their first day. But Cynthia's default pokemon will always be a Garchomp, which is a pseudo legendary, so I'm guessing not a good thing to come in with. But asking her to start over with someone new would be like asking Red to come in without Pikachu or Steven without Metagross...in my opinion anyway.

Then there's her possible role. I assume, since she's going to be AU'd to fit this world, that'd mean she'd be considered a native? Maybe? And by being a native, she should have been there for the whole thing and should have a little more experience than most people when it comes to handling the world. Not saying she should be super perfect and be high ranking and junk. But her original self IS a champion, and in a world where technically there is no league, how do you AU that? What are her other options besides rangers that would make it feel like I'm still playing a champion and not some other protag?

idk, the FAQ doesn't really clarify things for people who want to come in with slightly high ranking pokemon characters like gym leaders or elites...or it does and I completely missed it.

Unfortunately we have no special ruling for characters from Pokemon settings, we did have a Red for awhile and he used the normal starters and acquired a Pikachu early on (and somehow managed to roll a shiny Omanyte, praise Helix I guess?). In the interest of fairness, we can't allow any incoming characters to start with higher level Pokemon than normal, but there are ways to get to where you want to be with relative speed and we can potentially discuss special considerations for the type of Pokemon you start with. For example, in Cynthia's case, while Gible isn't available as a starter it is available in an area that can initially be explored. Apologies if this gets a bit technical with the mechanics, but she could have a Garchomp in the space of three weeks, one week to find it, and two weeks to intensively train to bring it up to its evolutionary point. Something we might be able to do (I make no promises I'd need to discuss it with the other mods) is allow her to, instead of taking the regular starter package, begin with a Gible since it's been on the map for awhile now, in which case it'd only take her 2 weeks to get it to a Garchomp (and if she were apped on, say, Thursday or Friday before we change over the new week on Saturday at Midnight EST she'd have a Garchomp in 1 week and some change, functionally coming in with her Garchomp).

Something we try to emphasize is taking a bit of separation from the core mechanics and how you construct your AU. While yes, your character (if you choose the Enlightened route) and your starter Pokemon begin at level 12, you have a lot of freedom to construct their role in the setting as one of power and respect. Looking at what you're going for, she may actually want to look at the Sword of the Savior, they're the elite force within the city of Union, typically nobility or exceptionally talented individuals. She could ICly be a member of some stature in the Swords, which is a route a number of other characters who in canon have high rank have taken (two in particular, Garen Crownguard from League of Legends and Ky Kiske from Guilty Gear come to mind). If you prefer, there are more scholarly angles as well, I guess that just depends on if you want her to be more combat focused or more scholarly focused since if memory serves she does both. Or you can have her be part of two organizations and have everyone be baffled at how she has the free time to do it.

[personal profile] anelegantmyth 2014-12-01 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
lmao ok tbh being a part of two organizations and still have time to brush her hair in the morning seems like something she'd do. If that's okay with you guys, I'd totally try that part out. But okay, I'm looking at the professions right now, and is there a limit to how many she could be? Because canon-wise, Delver, Historian and Pokemon researcher would also fit her pretty well. SHE LIKES KEEPING HERSELF BUSY OKAY;;;;

But in my head, I think the only way I could make the whole AU thing work is if she's already affiliated with a garchomp in some way. Right now I'm thinking she knew a garchomp in childhood, lost contact with it and suddenly, out of the blue, she finds a gible egg and stuff. Meaning if you guys would actually permit a gible starter, that's seriously the only thing stopping me at this point.

Heya! Another mod here! So we've discussed and we actually do have a precedence of allowing non-standard starters for characters who really want to be paired with something that suits them - we'd just require that you burn an 'intensive search' (one week of levels) and thread out the acquisition of the non-standard starter with us. In this case, threading out discovering the Gible egg/baby Gible or something would be fine. Does that sound alright with you?
anelegantmyth: (mocking: oh you)

[personal profile] anelegantmyth 2014-12-02 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry, define "burn an 'intensive search' (one week of levels)". Ok on the threading the acquisition, and you still didn't answer my question about how many professions she could actually have, or if she's allowed to participate in the activities of the other professions even if she isn't one of them.

[personal profile] wightknight 2014-12-02 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
The professions aren't really something we moderate; the info page is mostly just to inspire ideas for posts and roleplaying and to encourage CR and such. Obviously, there is a reasonable limit to how much a person can take on, but we leave it up to the player's discretion.

As for the 'search' we just mean that in lieu of doing any Pokemon searches or gaining levels the first week in the game, she's threading to get her special starter instead.

[personal profile] anelegantmyth 2014-12-03 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
wait I almost forgot. So I'm doing my app right now and I'm curious about housing and currency. I'm kind of basing her AU history off her family so instead of her raising the ranks to become champion, I kind of made it so she raises the ranks to her profession to follow in her family's footsteps. You'll see it when I send it in. But since she is a native, I'm just curious on her financial state...and where she'll live.

also explain the enlightened abilities section. I know the two types and the ability that I want for her but do I just write god of war, dark/dragon? Or do I have to sugar coat stuff?

Heya! We have some info pages in the FAQ, Culture, the City, and the like that might help. You are welcome to say that Cynthia is part of an important family, yes, and that she lives in a nicer area. This stuff we don't have much restriction on besides that you can't write her as the heir to the non-existent Union throne or something and common sense things like that.

Enlightened Abilities are here and you are not required to give an explanation of the types and Ability you choose, though you can if you'd like. God of War and Dark/Dragon is fine.
