Marvel, OCs, Historical Fantasy, and Fairy Tale Adaptations

Offering
» Peter Parker • Marvel Comics AU • [personal profile] lycosa - Just a new idea for an AU I had, where, after Peter's parents were taken out by Red Skull's goons, he was abducted by old enemies of the Parkers and raised as a spy. He's still the super-genius, but he's no hero - he's been raised to be an assassin; he started off by using technology and chemistry to kill, but after he was bitten by a radioactive spider (fate, and all), he used his new superpowers to kill for hire.

» Carswell Thorne • The Lunar Chronicles • [personal profile] captainisking - A deserter from the American military in a far future where people live on the moon and have telepathic abilities. He's the "rogue with a heart of gold," who's really just a self-centered jerk, flirts like crazy, and calls himself "Captain" when he's just a cadet. Underneath it all, though, he knows how much of an ass he is and will rise to a challenge.

» Maragdos Carcosa • Original Character • [personal profile] kryptos - A criminal in the far future who's been given a life sentence in a virtual prison. He's been able to hack through the prison's defenses mentally and he can interact with people through any computers or communication devices they might have. He's definitely more of a crack character, because he can only present himself as a cartoonish avatar. He's there to be the jerk waking your character up in the middle of the night with a Justin Bieber alarm.

» Sarkan "The Dragon" • Uprooted • [personal profile] smok - A wizard out of Naomi Novik's newest book, Uprooted - it takes place in a fantasy version of early/mid-modern Poland, where he's the local lord of a valley under the threat of a dark and mysterious forest that is trying to consume the whole kingdom. He's blunt, abrasive, over a hundred years old, and lonely. Every ten years he chooses a girl from the valley to be his servant and spoiler: use her as a channel into the power that feeds the valley and weaken the forest.

» Peter Quill • Marvel Comics • [personal profile] badlifechoices - A lone wolf space soldier who spent a whole lot of his life looking for revenge against the aliens who killed his mom. He found a higher purpose in saving the downtrodden of the universe until he killed his ship-wife taking down a cosmic threat; did a stint in prison after turning himself in for killing ~300,000 people, helped save the universe from extra-dimensional space bugs, a parasitic techno-virus, and a variety of threats including Lovecraftian demon-gods from a universe without death.

» Kell • A Darker Shade of Magic • [personal profile] antari - A magician from a fantasy version of early 19th Century England. In his world, England's under the rule of a family that's come from somewhere in the East. He's one of only two magicians left who can cross between parallel universes (to other Londons) and deliver messages between their rulers. He can use blood to power his magic and he has an eye that's completely pitch black. He has a sharp tongue and really only cares about his adoptive brother, being willing to murder for him, etc.

» Davy Jones • Original Character • [personal profile] aegir - A former Scottish sailor who was burned at the stake by his best friend for witchcraft and was reborn as a faerie. He just likes sailing along with the breezes nowadays, though he's been a patron to witches and magicians some days, and a slave to enchantments like a jinn other days. He's pretty down to earth for a faerie, enjoying most of the simple things in life, though he has a little sore spot when it comes to noblemen and royals.
Preferences
» Slow-burn threads. I've gotten really laid back in my RP, which I know isn't up to most people's tastes, but my comfort zone's about a tag a day or every other day. Sometimes I'll do a few replies to a thread in a day if it's really grabbed my interest at the moment.

» Lots of world building. I have a strong love for AUs, but even if we're just mashing our two canons together, I like writing out or plotting lots of detail into worlds and concepts in tags.

» Shipping & smut are both good by me. I have more of a preference for M/M than M/F, but I'm open to everything. Poly ships and unconventional relationships are my absolute favorites in most cases. I've gotten a little burned out on smut recently, so I would very much prefer to build up to it or fade to black than fully play it out in most cases for the time being. My only character-specific stipulations are: 1) I won't ship Carswell and Cress without Carswell suggesting that Cress be open to dating more people; 2) I don't ship Peter Quill/Kitty Pryde, period.

» Like I already said, I love AUs. I like to think I'm pretty basic in my AUs, just starting off with a seed concept like - "X is a mermaid" AU, that sort of thing. Or "They're in college together" AU, but I'm also down with doing more intricate things like "They're in a Lovecraftian/Secret World setting."

» I have two concepts I really want to play out with Peter Quill: 1) after getting out of the Cancerverse, he decided to take his place as heir to the Spartoi Empire and invade Earth to prevent a repeat of the Fault happening again, and 2) anything playing around with the possibility that he might have Celestial ancestry (his grandfather Eson, specifically, maybe tossing in some Black Mirror stuff).

» I'd love to toss Davy, Sarkan, Kell, and Carswell into a Once Upon a Time sort of setting.

» Any and all Marvel would be appreciated for my Peter Parker AU.

PM me, comment here, or send me a private plurk @ [plurk.com profile] sorath to plot things out.

Oh man, just based on your brief description of Uprooted, I might have to read that book! :>

I won't lie, either, that slow-burn AUs with lots of world-building have been my jam as of late. I've got only this guy to offer right now though, but if it interests you, I'd be up for working something out! Especially with Sarkan, I think, based on my curiosity for the canon.

It's a pretty great book! I know a lot of people who love Novik's writing on her Temeraire series, but this is the first book by her that I've read. It gets marketed and reviewed in a few places as a YA novel, which is a little odd because it reads at a more adult level than that.

I'd love to do something with Legolas and Sarkan. Would you be more interested in AUing them into a new setting, or would you like to try to mesh their worlds together?

[personal profile] orcsurfing 2016-01-25 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
I shamefully have the first book of the Temeraire series from her, that I have yet to start reading sob but I might begin with this. I'm glad it feels more adult than YA, though, since YA just puts me off hah

Ahhh both options sound fun! Though I think I'd be most inclined to mashing their worlds together to make up a new setting? :>

And also: would you be interested in writing it in a gdoc? I've been doing that recently, especially for slow-burn, world-build-y stuff and it's really working great.

[personal profile] ex_kryptos784 2016-01-25 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm in the same position re: Temeraire, haha. I grabbed it after I fell in love with Uprooted, but there are so many things in my life to read right now.

Mashing it up, it is! I imagine it shouldn't be too hard since Middle Earth is pretty roughly base don Europe, yeah? And there are magical creatures in Sarkan's world, so it wouldn't be much of a stretch to suggest there are elves roaming around.

I've never RPed through a gdoc, but I'm assuming it's just responding back and forth like tagging on here, except in a shared doc? (It always takes me a minute to process RPing in a new venue, lmao). I'm definitely up for going that route.

Yeah, ONE DAY I WILL GET TO IT... one day. But I've been making effort to read more again, so maybe that one day will come soon hah

Yes, yes it is! Either Mirkwood could be in Scandinavia, orrr it could even be said dark forest and so it's both Sarkan and the Woodland Realm struggling with what it is. It wasn't always this way, but something happened with it and it went to shit. Legolas could get sent as an envoy to Sarkan, to form an alliance in dealing with it and what not. Would something like that sound good to you? What are your thoughts? C:

And yes, exactly haha it doesn't have automatic notifications, which is the only downside, buuut you can e-mail collaborators when the document is shared as a means of notifying the person you've tagged. It's best for prose writing too. But I also don't mind writing on DW in museboxes, so whichever you prefer. :>!

[personal profile] smok 2016-02-08 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, as you can probably see, it's better that I hold myself a little more accountable by having notifications, at least for the time being. I'd love to try GDoc RP out with you eventually, but maybe we could start things off with a meme?

I posted him here, so if you wanna dig up some photos as general prompts, I'd love to write up a starter to get us going.

As for the setting, I'm thinking I like the idea of Mirkwood being in Scandinavia? Trying to not spoil too much, but around the end of the novel, Sarkan leaves his realm to put some distance between himself and the taint of the forest. He could be seeking out other magically connected forests to try and understand his a little better. I like the idea of Legolas being an envoy, though. We could just maybe shift it over that way.

[personal profile] orcsurfing 2016-02-08 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
That's cool! I went ahead and dropped some prompts on the meme. C: I hope they work!

And that'd be excellent, actually! We can say that Sarkan visits some city near-by the Mirkwood forest, and Legolas is an envoy to deal with its ruler and what not? For trade and some other treaties, and Sarkan could be a guest to that ruler so they get to meet and chat during some fancy, official reception. And we could go from there! How does that sound?

[personal profile] smok 2016-02-12 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
I love the sound of that! Writing up the starter as we speak.

[personal profile] ruffrabbits 2016-01-25 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
i love stuff with OCs, and i love things with AUs. i have an OC who's probably as annoying as maragdos is, but not... in jail. how do you feel about setting something in a universe where maragdos can be broken out and tries to convince someone to help?

i also like crosscanon, so if you don't mind canonblindness i could try the concepts you mentioned for peter quill with a bit of explanation and preparation!

[personal profile] ex_kryptos784 2016-01-25 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd be up for that! It's something I was interested in doing with Maragdos eventually, anyway.
ruffrabbits: (Default)

[personal profile] ruffrabbits 2016-01-25 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
cool! the OC i have in mind is this guy. he's also from the near-future, but with more aliens. he's very cheery and friendly but lacks a lot of basic scruples and could definitely be swayed into helping out.

[personal profile] ex_kryptos784 2016-01-26 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Excellent. We could start off with their first meeting. Would you want to do this on a meme or one of our journals?
ruffrabbits: (Default)

[personal profile] ruffrabbits 2016-01-28 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
either's fine! i can put up a starter for my OC getting the first contact, if that works?

[personal profile] ex_kryptos784 2016-02-08 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, sorry about the wait. If you're still interested, I made a post here. I granted your journal access for it.

If anything needs changing, feel free to let me know!

I have a few OCs I might be able to throw at you. Thorne looks like he might be fun to play off of.

[personal profile] captainisking 2016-01-26 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Always up for stretching my legs out with Thorne some more. What OCs might you be interested in tossing against him?
