Oh man, just based on your brief description of Uprooted, I might have to read that book! :>

I won't lie, either, that slow-burn AUs with lots of world-building have been my jam as of late. I've got only this guy to offer right now though, but if it interests you, I'd be up for working something out! Especially with Sarkan, I think, based on my curiosity for the canon.

It's a pretty great book! I know a lot of people who love Novik's writing on her Temeraire series, but this is the first book by her that I've read. It gets marketed and reviewed in a few places as a YA novel, which is a little odd because it reads at a more adult level than that.

I'd love to do something with Legolas and Sarkan. Would you be more interested in AUing them into a new setting, or would you like to try to mesh their worlds together?

I shamefully have the first book of the Temeraire series from her, that I have yet to start reading sob but I might begin with this. I'm glad it feels more adult than YA, though, since YA just puts me off hah

Ahhh both options sound fun! Though I think I'd be most inclined to mashing their worlds together to make up a new setting? :>

And also: would you be interested in writing it in a gdoc? I've been doing that recently, especially for slow-burn, world-build-y stuff and it's really working great.

I'm in the same position re: Temeraire, haha. I grabbed it after I fell in love with Uprooted, but there are so many things in my life to read right now.

Mashing it up, it is! I imagine it shouldn't be too hard since Middle Earth is pretty roughly base don Europe, yeah? And there are magical creatures in Sarkan's world, so it wouldn't be much of a stretch to suggest there are elves roaming around.

I've never RPed through a gdoc, but I'm assuming it's just responding back and forth like tagging on here, except in a shared doc? (It always takes me a minute to process RPing in a new venue, lmao). I'm definitely up for going that route.

Yeah, ONE DAY I WILL GET TO IT... one day. But I've been making effort to read more again, so maybe that one day will come soon hah

Yes, yes it is! Either Mirkwood could be in Scandinavia, orrr it could even be said dark forest and so it's both Sarkan and the Woodland Realm struggling with what it is. It wasn't always this way, but something happened with it and it went to shit. Legolas could get sent as an envoy to Sarkan, to form an alliance in dealing with it and what not. Would something like that sound good to you? What are your thoughts? C:

And yes, exactly haha it doesn't have automatic notifications, which is the only downside, buuut you can e-mail collaborators when the document is shared as a means of notifying the person you've tagged. It's best for prose writing too. But I also don't mind writing on DW in museboxes, so whichever you prefer. :>!

Haha, as you can probably see, it's better that I hold myself a little more accountable by having notifications, at least for the time being. I'd love to try GDoc RP out with you eventually, but maybe we could start things off with a meme?

I posted him here, so if you wanna dig up some photos as general prompts, I'd love to write up a starter to get us going.

As for the setting, I'm thinking I like the idea of Mirkwood being in Scandinavia? Trying to not spoil too much, but around the end of the novel, Sarkan leaves his realm to put some distance between himself and the taint of the forest. He could be seeking out other magically connected forests to try and understand his a little better. I like the idea of Legolas being an envoy, though. We could just maybe shift it over that way.

That's cool! I went ahead and dropped some prompts on the meme. C: I hope they work!

And that'd be excellent, actually! We can say that Sarkan visits some city near-by the Mirkwood forest, and Legolas is an envoy to deal with its ruler and what not? For trade and some other treaties, and Sarkan could be a guest to that ruler so they get to meet and chat during some fancy, official reception. And we could go from there! How does that sound?

I love the sound of that! Writing up the starter as we speak.
